I work with trustees, employers, providers and corporates on all kinds of pensions and retirement savings matters.  I am an experienced general advisory lawyer.  I also have a particular focus on complex projects including funding, covenant, DC solutions and contentious matters.  I regularly work on the pensions aspects of corporate transactions.

I am well known for my expertise on ESG and sustainability in pensions.  As well as helping clients in this developing area I have worked with the Financial Markets Law Committee and many other leading industry bodies, and I speak and write about it regularly.

My approach as a lawyer is based on building strong relationships, working practically and collaboratively with clients, other parties and professional advisers.  I am also active in supporting equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives within the pensions industry and beyond, with a particular focus on LGBTQ+ themes.

Recent experience

• working with clients and advisers on ESG investment policies, disclosures and climate change governance and reporting
• advising a number of pension scheme trustees on agreements to release surplus to the employer while securing benefit improvements for members
• advising an employer on options for improving at-retirement support and product options for employees with DC benefits
• advising schemes on journey planning and insurance transactions
• supporting clients with crisis management and incident response such as data breaches and service provider remediation
• acting for the representative employer in the settlement of Part 8 High Court proceedings concerning the validity of historic rule amendments in an industry-wide pension scheme.
